| Location Narrative |
The site is located along the Yana Trail in the Massacre Flat vicinity of the Paynes Creek Recreation Area. The stand is at the junction of Ink's Creek and a backwater slough coming off of the Sacramento River. The stand is tall mature valley oak woodland on a discernable terrace (5 meters or so) above Ink's Creek and backwater slough of the Sacramento River. Quercus wislizeni is a significant co-dominant and appears to "pick up" on the banks of the terrace. The plot contains hundreds of 2-3 year old Quercus lobata seedlings. The herbaceous component is primarily non-native annual grasses and herbs.; Cows were here this season, though the vegetation is not heavily grazed.
